I am also getting this 502 error. This has been the first error I’ve gotten from Gmail. An rare error is excusable from anybody else but I thought Google was invincible. I hope they solve it soon.

I have some sobering news. The 502 error appeared on my machine about 3 weeks ago. I’ve written to GMail tech support, who thanks me for the information, but to date, I still can only get to Gmail via IE. Does anyone out there have any ideas for repairing this?

Hey, ya I got that same error this morning, but for me in didn’t last long, all I did was go back one page to my google account and then hit gmail again, this time it did load.

Don’t worry about your data. There is only 1 in a million chance that data loss will take place. Although it has happened in the past: http://gigaom.com/2006/12/28/mom-google-ate-my-gmail/

I think gmail is facing access issues. Would have been great if a gmail engineer/google rep would have commented on this post and clarified as to whats going on.

Our company uses gmail company wide and pays for the service. I’ve been getting the 502 error for the last hour or so. Tried to clear all private data, tried Safari and FireFox 2.0, no luck.

If this outage was quantified in monetary terms I am sure the global cost to businesses and individuals could amount to $Billions$. Google owes us an apology.

It’s December 15th, 2007.
And today I am facing the Temporary Error 502 frustration.
(Though it says it will resolve it a couple of minutes, its more than 5 hours now)

The google problem continues… and this is freaking me out..
I use this id for work and I am missing out on important work related mails.

I m from last 3days facing the same problem .i sent a mail to gmail team also .but no use…
there is no contact number of customer care also…
really its panic for us…
onwards everbody should think twice before opening new account in gamil.

Had this problem (502) for about 20 minutes. Of the several different gmail accounts that I have, only one had this “error,” so I decided to try a little test…

I’m having this problem currently, been about an hour. I see people complaining about downtime from anywhere between 1 hour and several months. Here’s to hoping i’m in the former camp.

Oh and to anyone that uses gmail for business, stop. Gmail is in BETA. that means it is not a finished product, and should not be used in any mission-critical situation. And at the very least you should have a backup. A yahoo or hotmail account that Gmail forwards everything to. If your business is important to you, don’t rely on a free unfinished product for hosting your important business related emails.

I too face this problem since 3 days. Sent mail to the Google team but nogo. I did not get any reply nor the issue got resolved automatically. I installed JAVA and encountering the problem after that. I uninstalled JAVA as I started getting Error 793 while loading the Gmail page. If somebody can give me a solution I’ll be greatful.

I have also been denied access with 502 errors, however, I am not complaining as GMAIL IS FREE. To the people complaining that their businesses are harmed by the outage. You should not rely on a free product for business needs and you certainly have no right to complain about it!

I get the 502 error now as well! I have not been able to access my GMail account for more than 12 hours. This is very frustrating since it’s my primary email address account.
I can however login successfully on GMail with a different account, so it does appear to be account specific.

Other than contacting GMail support, I suppose I can only wait? The big question is, for how long??

I am glad I looked on to this and thanks for the one who started it. Otherwise I would not know about it.

In Thailand I have had the same 502 error message for more than 7 hours and I have checked on firefox and normal server still nothing.

As you can see from previous comments to my post, this problem has occurred in the past. Not everyone gets affected by these issues, its very personal to your email address, potentially the cluster etc. Google hosts it on etc. For example my email is working just fine right now.

Don’t worry, never heard of data loss. Obviously you can email Google and report this, am sure they are aware and working on it. Try deleting all your google cookies and trying again. Corrupt cookies can potentially cause this too.

I just posted this to my blog. This just went down for me and a couple friends around 5.15PM EST PM or so. Glad to see it’s happening on a pretty big scale. Maybe they are going to add push support on the iPhone? I doubt it, but it help pass the time.

The 502 error has unfortunately been a regular occurrence since March. It happens almost every month and the problem seems to become more frequent lately. Almost every time it takes more than 24 hours for Google to fix the problem.

i have been getting this error only when using the “send to” tool bar to send something to my gmail account using the right click drop down menu in a firefox web page. i do not get it if i log directly into email. does anyone know how to fix the problem
