Annoying bug with Google Calendar

As this blog entry proves, engineers at google do look out for issues users may (or may not) be facing with google products. So here is my latest gripe with Google Calendar. I keep getting this error:

“One or more of your selected calendars could not be loaded at this time. You can try to re-select the hidden calendars in a few moments.”

This usually happens for public calendars that I am subscribed to. If I manually select them, they come right back. But after a while unclick and disappear automatically. Anyone has any idea whats going on?

  • This message is caused by a bug (or maybe more than one bug) in the inner workings of Google Calendar. Most users see it only now and then, but since our service (Spanning Sync) accesses Google Calendar on behalf of hundreds of users every day, we see it all the time.

    We've found that in 80% of the cases if you try again not in a few minutes but immediately (by reloading your browser window), the problem will be gone. Sometimes however the problem can persist for a given calendar for quite some time.

    Anyway, Google is well aware of the problem and I'm sure is working on a fix.
